The new Pakistani TV series starring Sanam Saeed Miza and Emmad Irfani has given us a few bridal looks in episodes 2 and 3, styled by costumer supervisor Tabeer Abid. Let’s take a look!

  1. Mehndi

Zeba wears a yellow anarkali for the mehndi sequence. Cut with with a fitted bodice and panelled skirt the chiffon ensemble is embellished with traditional gota embroidery.

The bodice features a wide embroidered neckline, with gota stripes on the sleeves and a pink edging which is replicated in the high-waist seam.

The skirt is cut in panels, with gota stitched along each seam, and a wide gota border at the hem.

The dupatta features a wide mesh gota border, and a kiran (fringed) edging. As with the anarkali, the dupatta is also scattered with sequins.

This wasn’t shown clearly on the show, but the outfit was most likely work with a churidar pajama.

The look is accessorised with fresh flower jewellery and hair accessories.

2. Nikkah

For the wedding ceremony itself, Zeba wears a beautiful pastel esemble, which appears to be true a vintage piece – Saeed Mirza wore this for her own wedding back in 2015, and there was talk at the time that it was her mother’s wedding outfit.

The short kameez appears to be in a cream coloured silk, with gold zardozi detailing including thin borders at the neckline, cuffs and hem, and two larger motifs at the bottom with vines worked up from there.

You can just about make out a seam around the knee area as Zeba stands up, which indicates the bottom is a gharara rather than a lehenga. The gharara also appears to be in cream silk, and covered all over with a trailing floral pattern in gold aari and zardozi work, with pink and blue (possibly painted or appliquéd) flowers. The hem features a c.2 inch wide gold zardozi border lined in slightly darker cream silk.

The dupatta appears to be in chiffon, with the same floral embroidery as the gharara. The edges ares finished with gold kiran, which has been tucked in around Zeba’s head, possibly being used to pin the dupatta to her hair.

She also wears another dupatta in red net with gold boders and sequins all over as a veil.

The look is accesorised with traditional nizami style jewellery in gold and pearls with touches of red.

3. Walima

For the walima, Zeba wears an ensemble made up of multiple different pieces from designer Umar Sayeed.

The kameez is in a burnt orange silk with gold zardozi embroidery in small motifs embroidered close together, and was also worn by Maya Ali in Parey Hut Love (worn with a green waistcoat on top):

The dupatta on Zeba’s head in a red chiffon with floral motifs scattered all over, stylised paisley embroidery on the borders with a red silk lining on the reverse, and edged in pankha (fan) lace is the same as worn by Mahira Khan in the mujra Morey Saiyaan in Parey Hut Love as well.

The dupatta on Zeba’s shoulder and the farshi sharara are from another Umar Sayeed ensemble as seen below, in maroon with contrasting patchwork borders and a deep turquoise lining.

Overall, Abid did a great job of capturing the 90s aestehtic! Which outfit was your favourite?
